Round Maya / Aztec Jewelry Box
A round walnut jewellery box carrying an Aztec calendar and a Maya/Aztec naming problem inherited from its first publication.

THE NAME / MAYA + AZTEC
Historically untidy. Mechanically sound.
The original publication calls this an Aztec box with a Maya ornament, so the title preserves the confusion instead of quietly rewriting history. Concentric wooden layers form the round body and lid, with walnut, a felt interior and a mineral-oil finish documented in the build. The calendar-like engraving occupies nearly the entire lid and relies on depth, burn marks and shadow rather than added colour. It is a compact box with a large amount of geometry and at least two civilisations sharing the metadata. The mechanism, fortunately, is much easier to classify.
