WOOD / WIRES / CODE / PERFECTLY REASONABLE COMPLEXITY

Objects that do
more than sit still.

Each project starts as a question and usually ends with custom firmware, sawdust and far too many prototypes.

Built with unreasonable curiosity.

MATERIALWood, veneer, plywood, resin, copper, brass, whatever survives.
FABRICATIONHand tools, CNC, laser, another prototype.
BEHAVIOURLight, sound, water, motion. Usually intentional.
INTERACTIONTouch, voice, gestures, cameras, sensors. Buttons still work.
LOGICFirmware, automation, control, undocumented features.
OUTPUTOpen code, schematics, build logs, proof it worked once.

PROJECT ARCHIVE / 2019—NOW

Built, debugged,
eventually documented.

Woodworking, electronics and software—usually in the same object, occasionally on the first attempt.

BUILD LOG / SPARSE UPDATES WELCOME

Long builds,
honest progress.

Projects can stay here for months. Each dated checkpoint records what changed, what worked and what still refuses to cooperate.

Retro Wooden Camera

Restoring a century-old lens before designing a new wooden camera body around its mechanics and character.

  1. RESTORATION
    The lens comes apart

The original optics and shutter are being cleaned and tested before the dimensions of the new wooden body are locked in.

Steampunk Wooden Glasses

Laser-cut wooden frames that hold interchangeable photographic filters in place of ordinary lenses.

  1. PROTOTYPE

The wooden bodies and threaded camera filters work; the full build is waiting for the remaining components.

WORKSHOP NOTES / QUICK BUILDS + DETOURS

Not every object needs
a thirty-four step guide.

Small experiments, one-day builds and useful workshop distractions—kept as a visual notebook instead of disappearing into a social feed.

THE METHOD / FOUR-STAGE LOOP

“If it can be bought, it can probably be made much more complicated.
01Imagine

Start with the object that does not quite exist yet.

02Prototype

Mix code, cardboard, modules and unreasonable optimism.

03Make

Cut, solder, sand, debug, repeat. Usually repeat again.

04Share

Publish the files, firmware and a path through the chaos.

ABOUT TIMBERROUGH / USEFUL THINGS, QUESTIONABLE METHODS

Useful objects are allowed to become needlessly complicated.

TimberRough is where wood is usually involved. So are sensors, firmware, magnets, pumps, ultraviolet paint and at least one prototype that deserved what happened to it.

Some builds take a weekend. Others remain “almost finished” for months. When something works, the photographs, files, code and mistakes stay here.
