THE LID / TAMBOUR TRACK

A pencil box with machinery.

Narrow wooden slats run through curved tracks and roll across the top of the box, opening the lid without a hinge or loose panel. The body is assembled from open-source laser-cut parts, then covered with dense steampunk engraving because a plain pencil case would have solved the problem too quickly. The published guide documents twenty steps from cutting and sanding to gluing the flexible tambour and applying finish. It stores ordinary stationery inside a mechanism normally reserved for desks and cabinets. The pencils remain unimpressed but securely contained.
